So it appears I will wind up 2008 with this long mix, mixed one afternoon in December by me in my Chelsea apartment. I didn't think out the playlist or do any pre or post production work on it, i just sat down and pressed the record button and picked a song to start with and the rest just followed. When I listened to it a few days later I thought it was pretty good and was gonna try to grab the best one hour and 20 minutes from the set and post that but figured what the hell i'll just post the whole thing. Sure the download time is a little long and I am sure it will stretch my bandwith limits to the max with Apple, if the site is shut down before the 15th of January that is what happened and it will be back up on the 16th, but with todays broadband speeds it shouldn't take more than 15 minutes to download this it will take almost 3 hours to listen to it... the another 3 hours to listen again, and again and again.... Just in time for your New Years Eve get together.
Merry Christmas everyone, Happy Holiday's and Happy New Year!!
xoxo

Wednesday, November 19, 2008
I hope to have some good news soon about some more exposure for myself, but in the interim I will gladly promote this website, cause the music is very good and the DJ lineup they have is pretty fierce. Of course it could be a little fiercer, I'll let you know when that happens ;)

The New Black
Mr. Black has relocated again this time to the space formerly known as Rebel on 30th Street between 7th and 8th, we were there last night I thought it was GREAT! I think things may finally pick up around here Saturday Nights soon... The DJ played a really good song last night that Tres and I liked, Tres went up and asked the name of the song and I downloaded it and am posting it here for her to get, and anyone else for that matter. Its Blind by Hercules & Love Affair, this is the Frankie Knuckles Remix.

Halloween Weekend NYC/Philly
We went to Pure in Philly for Tony Moran on Halloween Night with some friends from NYC that made the trip down, nice crowd, Tony was fine, crowded til 5am and the party continued til 8am as advertised., We wore the same outfits we wore to the Pines Party this year figuring to try to win the contest but alas the contest (thankfully) is done early on so as to not disrupt the party later on, we didn't arrive til 2am.
Saturday Salem at Roseland. I didn't follow the theme and went as a Boxer with an authentic Everlast hooded robe and the Red white and blue stars and stripes everlast boxing trunks that Apollo Creed wore in Rocky and a pair of boxing gloves around my neck and a very authentic, though drawn on Black eye... I thought it would be nice and coolk but eh robe and hood were soaked as was I most the night, but it was a cool outfit, pics on my facebook/myspace pages. The Saint at Large pulled off a fairly decent party, the dancefloor was full during the peak hours and the party went until about 2pm or so. The place was decorated much the same as they do during black party with a bunch of stuff between the front door and the steps leading down to the coat-check, in this case it was a lot of jack-0-lanterns and pumpkins, downstairs the coat-check was not nearly as busy but was still available, the photographer was set up there taking pictures much like Black Party, a bar and a couple of bathrooms also a hallway leading to a dark loungey area that i explored later in the morning, but got there just as the DJ in that room was ending, not many people back there but very dark and about 4 or 5 small rooms off a small main corridor where the dj was set up, I'm sure it was interesting down there at some point. Back upstairs, way upstaris, not much going on up there, the walkway that goes the entire length of the dancefloor was closed off you could go upstairs and there was a bar and some seating overlooking one end of the dance-floor, Guy Smith was set up here doing lights and that was it for upstairs the other end was closed. The music was adequate, nothing legendary by any stretch of the imagination I think Junior had the better set peter had more people in attendance during his set. Plenty of people there as I mentioned before, almost a who's who of whats left of this scene and at the same time a familly reunion of the people that are hardly part of this scene at all anymore because there hardly is a scene at all which is a shame. A lot of reminiscing and re-aquatinting even if it hasn't really been that long, there is still a major void in this scene, something that someone will soon capitalize on I can only assume. I can at least hope. I left about 5 minutes before Junior ended and I walked out into Times Square at 2pm still dressed in my knee high doc martin boots, the stars and stripes shorts and the royal blue and white hooded robe with the red boxing gloves around my neck, the back eye long since faded away and hopped in a cab home... fortunately i got the day off of work. I was fully prepared to go to Penn Station at 1:15pm and catch a train to Philly to work all day Sunday before returning home to New York City for Alegria, but the party gods smiled on me and I stayed home and rested all day before Alegria Sunday Night.
Not knowing what to expect and showing up a bit late, at almost 4am I was pleaseantly surprised to find of course no line and i could barely even hear any music or sound coming from the building when I got out of the cab at Webster Hall, past security at the VIP entrance and checked my coat and still not a soul to be seen and barely a whisper to be heard from upstairs, as I made my way up I heard someone saying "... thank you Alegria, I love you!!!" and I realised that I had time my arrival perfectly the show, whoever that was, has just finished and Abel's recognizable beat hit me as soon as I turned the corner at the top of the first marble staircase entering the main room at Webster Hall. I went up to VIP to get a drink the 3rd floor mezannine was more or less desserted compared to past alegria's with only the light men and the vip security and bartender up there, along with a few straglers. NOthing wrong with that. There was definitely a critical mass on the dancefloor and people who normally don't even attempt to make it to the dancefloor before 8am or so where able to enjoy some peak hours on the main floor. Abel was great, the decorations were great and I think Ric and Abel silenced any nay-sayers or doubting thomas' that may have had 2nd thoughts about Alegria's ability to continue on as the premier party in New York City month after month, it was a fun, well run, safe, joyous occasion that was enjoyed by most in attendance and enjoyed by many until 1pm on Monday Afternoon... 1pm on a Monday afternoon that is not a Holiday, Bravo!!
All in all a fun weekend, and I look forward to the next Saint at Large party which appears to be the evening pf January 1st, a Thursday night, New Years Day Night, at Espace, which I guess is a new space in Hells Kitchen on 42nd between 11th and 12th, if that is even called Hells Kitchen, I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong. They're website has a lot of "Coming Soon" pages and not a lot of info about the facility thats why I guess its new. We'll have to wait and see I suppose. I know Victor Calederone will be at Roseland on New Years Day Morning at 9am following a Tiesto performance on New Years Eve itself. I am also assuming there will be some kind of Peter Rauhoffer and or Junior Vasquez Party somewhere on New Years Eve so we don't have to go to Tiesto. Next Alegria will be MKL weekend in January, a Sunday when some people are off Monday. Interestingly the Presidents Day Alegria is in Ft Lauderdale as opposed to New York, in Ft. Lauderdale two weeks before winter party which is a week before the March Atlantis Solstice Cruise, which means we will be logging plenty of frequent flyer miles duirng the month between February 15 and March 15th back and forth from New York to Florida.

Episode 32:October After
Yup, your eyes are not deceiving you, it's another episode of my podcast. This mix starts out like most of them with some Mariah Carey and some Madonna but then quickly goes a different direction into a more afterhours sounding set... at least for a little while in the middle.
This is the first mix I've posted that I actually mixed live, usually I put them together with a studio production type program on my computer where I can line up all the beats and make sure the transitions are flawless before releasing it. This time I mixed this 85 minute set live and did no pre or post production to it at all. I used Serato Itch a DJ mixing program on my new MacBook Pro along with my new Vestax VCI-300 controller pressed record and just started playing. The end result is what you are about to listen to. Let me know what you think in the comments, thanks.

Boo!
Working on a new mix... stay tuned for that...
Here is some New Years Eve info if anyone is interested:
Tiesto is at Roseland Ballroom on December 31, his set is from 11pm til 4am, doors open at 8PM lots of HIgh Price package deals for this party. It is an Area Events Event, NOT Saint At Large. It;s followed with an afterhours party still at Roseland from 4am-9pm on the 1st with Victor Calderone spinning from 9am til 9pm. Don't quote me on the times but he is headlining the aftehours party on January 1st. Again, it does not appear to be a gay event.
I am sure that Peter and Junior, (separately) will be doing something.
I got the new Noize today in the mail and noticed that the Saint At Large has a listing for New Years in the back of the magazine that says New Years Eve January 2nd - 4th. So it would appear that they have multiple events planned for the weekend following New Years perhaps this is why someone confused it for bringing back the White Party. Its still a bit early and I agree Times Square, The Weather and Hotel Prices/Availability are all negatives but New Years Eve being on a Wednesday night, gas prices and the piss poor economy doesn't make it a traveling holiday either... So for those of us stuck in New York for the Holidays I'm sure there will be ample offerings. My $0.02.
I did attend Vic's Evolve Party this past Sunday and was very happy with the way he was playing though I have come out in the past against the security at Pacha I didn't find the door as intrusive as the previous party Juniors Birthday, but did find the patrolling of the dance-floor to be a bit much especially as it got later and less crowded and more gay out there.
Will be in PHiladelphia on Halloween Night for Tony Moran at Pure with every intention of winning their costume contest, then back in New York Saturday Night for the Saint at Large "Salem" Party with Peter and Junior followed by Ghetto Alegria at Webster Hall on Sunday Night fully expecting Abel to redeem himself after what most people thought was a less than stellar performance last Alegria. I have heard him redeem himself twice since then so I know he will.
Looking forward to seeing everyone again as we don't see nearly enough of each other anymore with no go to place on Saturday Nights in NYC. Please leave a comment!

Roxy! Redux!
From The Huffington Post, by Ryan J. Davis:
When I reported last month that New York City Nightlife was under attack and asked readers to rally in support, thousands of people responded in what Gay City News called an "unprecedented Internet-fueled campaign." The meeting to grant the Roxy a new liquor license was unfortunately postponed, but has now been rescheduled for Tuesday, August 12th.
As I said about the meeting last month:
----
This Tuesday, you have a real opportunity to stand up for New York City nightlife, which has been increasingly under attack from a small group of residents. These groups are fighting to end the city's legacy as a global nightlife destination, attempting to allow fewer licenses to be issued, closing bars early, and even shutting down some venues.
The historic Roxy nightclub is attempting to reopen, and their ability to obtain a liquor license may be blocked by Chelsea's fringe anti-nightlife activists. On Tuesday, you can attend Community Board Four's Business Licenses & Permits Meeting and ask the Board to preserve New York's outstanding nightlife.
-----
I've setup this facebook event for you to join and invite your friends. It's time to fight back against the "wanna-be suburbanites" (as New York Blade Columnist Allen Roskoff calls them) trying to turn New York City into a sleepy bedroom community.
See you all on Tuesday!
Meeting Info: Community Board 4's Business Licenses & Permits Committee, 6:30 PM, Tuesday, Aug. 12th, in The Minetta Room of The Westin Hotel, at 270 W. 43rd St between 7th and 8th Avenue.
** If you invite over 200 friends to this event, you can be an Rally Co-Host! Private message me to let me know! **

HX Magazine Blurb & Pines Party Pictures

This paragraph appeared in the August 1 issue of HX Magazine.
"First we got our pre-drink on at Jay F. Rothenstiens 6th Annual Pre Pines Party party at 455 Ocean Walk where about 400 queens grooved to the sounds of DJ Joe Caro..."
A bunch of names were mentioned the only person I know was Steve Weinstein but there really were about 400 people there and most, if not all, appeared to be enjoying my set and had a good time I think, I got a lot of compliments on my set both at the party itself and then later at the Pines Party.
Speaking of which below is a little photo album of our fierce Pines Party outfits! The theme was "Circus" so I was dressed as the Ring Master and my friends Eddie and Chris were dressed as a tiger and a panther, I had them on chain leashes and we pranced all around the party when we arrived with dozens of people stopping us to take pictures including HX and Next Magazines but the pictures didn't make the magazines. So, here they are....

Manhunt Email
Got this email from a Guy in DC early Wednesday Morning on Manhunt of all places.
It was very nice of him and I thought I would share it with all of you...

Hey, I have a question and please dont feel obligated to answer it but you look
very much like this guy who's podcasts I really like from Itunes. Are you Joe Caro? If you are then
you have a true fan in me, and "Missing You" helped me put many things in perspective, and
yanked me out of a depression I thought would never let me go.
I realize that you are on here for a different reason but I thought you should
know that your music not only reaches your podcast fans on a cultural/musical taste level but it can
also can remove them from there own pain long enough to get a real perspective and finally heal, so I
will keep enjoying your podcasts and thank you.

The Roxy, Bring it Back!!!
Folks this is important...things have not been the same in NYC since the Roxy closed 16 months ago...Not many realize the impact Roxy's closure had on New York nightlife. Whether you went there or not, whether you are a fan of dancing or not, there was always a comfort in knowing that on any given Saturday night you had the option of totally losing yourself on the dance floor until dawn. Thousands of men, weekend after weekend- a full on, resident dance party. Then it shut down. After thirty years. The revelers committed to the every weekend party split off in two directions laid forth by the powers that be. John Blair took his legendary party to Splash, tired and played out to NY residents but hits the jackpot on tourists and the young. Others went to Stereo for Peter Rauhofer's Saturday night fix. That party only lasted a year or so when the city used the same eminent domain laws to take over the property that Stereo was on.
Dancing is dwindling in this city and nightlife is being smothered to a less than subtle degree.
This Tuesday, you have a real opportunity to stand up for New YorkCity nightlife, which has been increasingly under attack from a smallgroup of residents. These groups are fighting to end the city's legacyas a global nightlife destination, attempting to allow fewer licensesto be issued, closing bars early, and even shutting down some venues.
The historic Roxy nightclub is attempting to reopen, and their abilityto obtain a liquor license may be blocked by Chelsea's fringe anti-nightlife activists.
On Tuesday, you can attend Community Board Four's Business Licenses & Permits Meeting and ask the Board to preserve New York's outstanding nightlife. Roxy could practically be designated a landmark, defined in New York City as a structure at least thirty years old that possesses "...a special character or special historical or aesthetic interest or valueas part of the development, heritage, or cultural characteristics of the city, state, or nation," according to the Landmarks Preservation Commission. Roxy first opened in the 1970s as a roller disco, and was known as the 'Studio 54 of roller rinks,' whose guest list includedthe 1980 US Mens Hockey Team, which had just won an Olympic Gold Medal for the United States. In 1982, Roxy transformed into one of the birthplaces of hip hop, showcasing hip hop pioneers as illustrious as Afrika Bambaataa and Grandmaster Flash. My own memories are morerecent; I was a regular attendee of Roxy Saturdays, the JohnBlair-sponsored gay night where icons like Madonna and Cher would occasionally perform. Even beyond its cultural and historical importance, though, Roxy was an absolute success story as a club going destination; it remains a beloved fixture in New York's nightlife and has earned the right to reopen in the neighborhood that it has fostered for over thirty years.
Beyond The Roxy's license problem, there is a disturbing trend first reported last April in The New York Sun. "In most parts of Manhattan, bar and club owners say, it has become nearly impossible to open new nightlife establishments that are permitted to serve alcohol until 4am." The "City That Never Sleeps" is under attack from those residents who move into neighborhoods that have been revitalized in large part by their vibrant nightlife, only to attempt to gut that very nightlife and turn the neighborhoods into the equivalent of suburban bedroom communities.
Unless we act now, we could see our 4am night spots dwindle off. Make your voice heard Tuesday. This is more than a lifestyle concern; nightclubs and the businesses that serve them bring over $10 billion in economic activity to NewYork City and employ over 100,000 people. On Tuesday, tell the Board that failure to grant full liquor licenses will effect thousands of your friends and neighbors.
The fight won't be over Tuesday, though: please mark your calendarsfor Wednesday, July 23rd, when the full board will meet to debate its final recommendation to the State Liquor Authority. We need hundreds of people, gay and otherwise, to come and show power in action. The anti-nightlife frenzy of Community Board Four is destroying the quality of life for thousands of people in our community. Let'sexercise our democratic rights and reopen Roxy. I hope you'll join me at both meetings. Bring a friend. Bring five. The future of New York City nightlife is in your hands. And hey, we can all go out for some drinks afterwards.Hopefully we can find a place nearby still open.
Meeting Details:Community Board 4, Business Licenses & Permits Meeting, Tuesday, July8th @ 6:30PM at The Westin Hotel (270 W. 43rd St.) in The MinettaRoom.Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008, 6:30 p.m, Roosevelt Hospital, 1000 TenthAv. (b.58th / 59th).

Volume 28: One Mighty Mess - Mixed by Joe Caro
Actually, It's One Mighty Mix!!
I had this one 99% done after the first nigh in Orlando a couple weeks ago but have been tinkering with it ever since... Never having a full 15 minutes to actually upload it.. I must have finally found the time if you are reading this.
I will be cheating on NYC this year for pride and heading to San Francisco for my 2nd visit, the first being Folsom St Weekend last year, i had a lot of fun then, thus my return and I plan on having a lot of fun there this time to, perhaps I will see you there..
xoxo

Volume 27: Dangerous - Mixed by Joe Caro - March 2008
Or.. .The Dangerous Mix For Boys... Yes, its Black Party Weekend in New York and its only Thursday Night but I am already very excited, I have a feeling its gonna be a great weekend.
Beginning tonight with the release of my latest podcast: Dangerous ;)
The phone is ringing off the hook and the text messages are coming in 'fast and furious' (get it?) ;)
everyone is arriving in town from all over the world for Satrday nights spectacle at Roseland but don't think its just that, there is also Alegria with its debut at Webster Hall Sunday night and don't discount Peter Rauhofer and the Work Crew Presenting "Darkroom" at the Highline Ballroom on Friday Night. Personally I think that this party has all the potential to be the "Party of the Weekend'... we shall see.. of course there are brunches and gatherings and pre and post BP partys all over the city, its not a circuit event but this year if really does feel like one and I love it! I think we need a full blown circuit event here. It used to be that every weekend you could have a full blown circuit weekend in NYC with happening parties and a vibrant nightlife scene every night of the week. It's just not that way anymore around here and knowing that it will be this weekend has me all a flutter!!!
So here it is my next mix, it definetly isn't very dark its probably more of a morning music set if you had to put a label on it. I did throw a Jonathan Peter's mix in there, it gets kinda darkish in the middle, but only very briefly, definitely heavy on the vocals and the happy morning music it think, maybe after this weekend after I hear what Stephan Grondin, Johnathan Peter's, Peter Rauhoffer, Abel and Joe Gauthreaux have planned for us I'll be inspired to do another one right away and who knows it may be darker, may not... we'll have to wait and see... have a great weekend everybody!!
xoxo
